Brother Desmond

Archbishop Desmond Tutu has been a great inspiration for liberation struggles in Africa and around the world. He remains universally respected, a persistent voice of conscience where others have stumbled.

Having won the Nobel Prize in 1984, he has cast a harsh but much needed light on injustices throughout the world, speaking out on issues ranging from the plight of Native Americans in North America, the repression of Bushmen in Botswana, and the suffering of the Palestinian people, while maintaining his gaze on the Darfur crisis and the depredations of various strongmen in Africa.

Through it all, he has been a source of compassion and inspiration, and a perfect embodiment of liberation theology.
